Hasta La Gadget!

Ouch! It really stings to see the curvaceous spectacles that car designers can come up with, only to then find out the resulting electric speedsters are either far too expensive or nowhere near becoming a reality. Latest in this group of four-wheeled objects of desire is Jaguar’s C-X75, which roars from 0 to 60mph in 3.4 seconds, cranks out 780bhp courtesy of a quartet of electric motors and a pair of micro gas turbines, and reaches a screaming 205mph at its absolute zenith. You can go for 68 miles just on electric juice or 560 if you let the gasworks recharge the Li-ion battery pack on the go. So it’s gorgeous inside and out, it comes with swan doors, high-res LCD screens and an aluminum body, and it has less chance of being on sale than a dodo sandwich. Yep, it’s an electric supercar alright. See the C-X75 on video after the break.

Yeah, Super Mario Bros. was kind of a big deal, and we can’t fault Nintendo for wanting to celebrate: September 13th marked the 25th anniversary of the game’s launch, and Nintendo is pushing out special editions of the DSi and DSi XL (pictured) to celebrate, along with some pretty sweet swag. We mentioned the handhelds this morning, but now we’ve got a couple pictures — way to play it subdued, Nintendo. Unfortunately, the consoles are for Japan only, but what we’re particularly digging is this Super Mario Collection Special Pack that Nintendo will be launching alongside. The pack will include a version of Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii, a soundtrack CD, and a “Super Mario History, 1985 to 2010” booklet with some unreleased materials like initial development planning sheets handwritten by Shigeru Miyamoto himself. Again, announced for Japan only. Sounds like the import industry is going to be hot this October when these things land!

We’re actually surprised that TomTom’s still going strong after Google and Nokia unleashed their free satnav offerings many months ago. If you need some convincing, try this: following the launch of its Go Live 1000 series earlier this month, TomTom has just published a manifesto on its mission to encourage “better use of existing road capacity,” and eventually “reduce journey times for everyone by up to 5 percent where there is traffic.” Actually, by “everyone” TomTom means Europe, and according to its computer simulations, this would apparently require 10 percent of the continent’s drivers to be hooked up to its HD Traffic active load-balancing service. There’s no time frame given here, but it’ll probably be awhile — in the video after the break, CEO Harold Goddijn admits that out of TomTom’s 45 million drivers, only about 1 million (or 2.2 percent) are currently connected to its live services. That said, this figure might get a little boost once TomTom starts providing free traffic data to radio stations and TV channels as part of its manifesto (in return for some cheap publicity, of course).

On a related note, TomTom has also just rolled out HD Traffic 4.0, touting its “higher accuracy, reporting up to 200 percent more traffic jams during rush hours than previously.” Existing HD Traffic customers from eight nations — including Switzerland — need not fiddle with anything to utilize the new service, and by year’s end seven more countries will join the party. Meanwhile, we’re still waiting on TomTom’s own take on the App Store — who knows if the company will even survive long enough to reach its goals. We kid, we kid. Or do we?

You can’t grab one of these bad boys from your local store just yet — you’ll have to wait until early October for that — but some current T-Mobile customers who’d pre-ordered the G2 (including our own Myriam Joire) are reporting that their devices have shipped. That means we’ll probably see at least a few of these showing up in excited forum threads tomorrow, and a whole phalanx of ’em by week’s end. Get those QWERTY thumbs oiled and warmed up, folks.
