Violight has been in the business of UV-based germicide since way back in 2004, but now it’s bringing its wares closer to our geeky hearts. Its new Cell Phone Sanitizer will nuke 99 percent of all germs and bacteria slithering around your phone or MP3 player, and it’ll do it in under 5 minutes too. Or such is the claim, anyhow. Alternative applications for this ultra-versatile product include using it as gift packaging or as a display stand in stores — you’ve got to love that added value right there. Some patience will be required before you lay down $49.95 for your very own UV zapper, as Violight’s Sanitizer isn’t hitting the market until at least October. Looking for a dock… with a twist? Frankly we weren’t either, but that didn’t stop us from being intrigued by the aptly titled TwistDock for the PS3 from Vogel’s, a docking station for a console that we didn’t think needed one. On the front the TwistDock houses a PS3, either original or Slim, and on the back (here comes the twist) two controllers can be slotted in and charged, shown after the break. There’s also a USB hub for connecting other goods and overall it pledges to keep your layout “clean, stylish and sexy.” That would be lovely progression from our current entertainment center’s “dusty, cluttered and tangly” label. Can it deliver? It’s on display at this year’s E3, and we’ll go see for ourselves.

We know that this next bit of information will most likely shock and upset you, but it has to be told: the current Engadget editor doesn’t own an iPod dock. In fact, he doesn’t even own an alarm clock. Of course, it would be nice to listen to Pandora or the BBC’s Desert Island Disks without switching on the computer during those rare times when we weren’t working — but it was never a priority. Not a priority, that is, until we laid eyes on that cute Alarm Clock app (or, at least, a cardboard simulation thereof) at CES. Now that we have had the iLuv App Station in our hot little hands (and on our bedside table) for a week, the jury is in. Is iLuv’s App Station all that it’s cracked up to be? Read on, dear readers, to find out.

One of the things we bemoaned in our EVO 4G review was the lack of an included Micro HDMI cable in the box, mostly because they’re still somewhat hard to find, but that worry can now be allayed thanks to this newly uncovered HDMI dock from HTC. It will work with the Micro-USB port at the bottom of your EVO for data and power transfers, but the main attraction will obviously be its compatibility with the phone’s Type D connector and HDMI 1.4 connectivity. Before you rush to your nearest Best Buy to get one, though, there are a couple of caveats. PC Mag‘s testing of the HDMI output found some TVs only recognized a 480p signal when the EVO was sending out 1080p, and a number of apps, including Sprint TV, refused to send their goods out over the High-Definition Multimedia Interface at all. Might be worth trying before buying in this case, as in most others.
