Best Buy’s iPhone 4 inventory plans revealed by another purported leak

Seriously, can’t we keep any mystery in our lives anymore? After we saw what’s purported to be Best Buy’s “playbook” for the iPhone 4 debut yesterday, today we’re being treated to an inventory list revealing the stock ordered up from Apple for the big retailer’s launch of the new handset. Black 16GB variants of the iPhone 4 dominate, with up to 70 per store, but the leak also includes smaller orders for the white 32GB units as well. None of these are in stock yet, mind you, and that playbook did serve up some confusing messages as to whether Best Buy will have any unreserved iPhones to sell at all on launch day. Still, at least you’ll now have a better idea of which locations stand the best chance of dishing out some of that Apple pie you crave so much.

Best Buy’s iPhone 4 launch manual leaked?

Like the iPad launch guide before it, Best Buy’s iPhone 4 launch plan has just made its wily way into our collective lap, replete with loads of details on how your favorite blue-shirted electronics salespersons are going to be spending their Thursday morning. While we’ve yet to see any hot scoops inside its two dozen pages (aside from some confusing, contradictory gibberish about whether Best Buy will have iPhones at launch at all) we have learned that stores will open up previously suspended preorders on launch day, accepting reservation fees for devices that customers can pick up at a later date. What we’re not seeing here is anything about specific number of units, but there are various lines that caution against expecting much in the way of non-reserved phones — should there be any, the guide advises first come first serve once the store opens. In other words, it’s business as usual: call ahead and show up early. See some choice quotes from the playbook after the break.

White HTC EVO 4G coming exclusively to Best Buy on July 11th, pre-orders start today

Jumpin’ Jehosaphat! Just when you thought America’s first 4G phone couldn’t get any hotter, along comes this: a striking white version of the HTC EVO 4G (so much for that unavailable white iPhone 4, eh?). We’ve received confirmation that this here handset will be sold exclusively through Best Buy (as in, don’t even bother heading to your local Sprint store), with the official launch date set for July 11th. We’re told that Sprint will eventually gain access on August 8th, with other retailers snapping it up in September. If you somehow managed to hold off on snagging the existing black EVO 4G, you can get your pre-order in starting on June 18th — yeah, today, Junior! We’re assuming the price will remain at $199.99 on a 2-year contract, but be sure to drop us a line if you wander in and find out otherwise.

Update: And it’s official; the presser is after the break confirming the same $199.99-on-a-2-year-contract price as well as the dates mentioned already.

Update 2: Turns out this thing was around way back at Google I/O! Head on past the break and mash play — that’s definitely a white-backed EVO 4G on stage. Thanks, Omar!

[Thanks, Anonymous]

PlayStation Move bundle up for pre-order at Best Buy and GameStop

We’re sure every other retailer in the world will have PlayStation Move orders up in the next week or so, but Best Buy and GameStop are leading the charge: the $99 Move bundle that include the PS Eye, a Move controller and Sports Champions is now available for pre-order, with an estimated delivery date between November 1st and the 6th — just a little bit after the announced September 19th launch date. We’re sure that’ll be revised as things get firmed up, though. So, what’s it going to be? Considering we’re still guessing at Microsoft’s final Kinect pricing, we’d say the decision’s a tough one, but honestly, you know we’re totally buying all of this stuff and having an all-night dance off.

[Thanks, William]

HTC EVO 4Gs flooding into Best Buys, some Radio Shacks opening at 6AM on Friday

EVO fever — have you caught it? Things are seriously starting to ramp up in preparation for Friday’s festivities, the day that Sprint’s EVO 4G hits shelves (though most will likely be sold before they even touch a shelf, truth be told). Radio Shack hit us up with the knowledge earlier today that it’ll be opening some locations as early as 6AM — and what’s more, they claim to have “specifically set aside” some units for folks who didn’t pre-order, so that might be your best chance. We’re also getting a bunch of shots from tipsters who say their Best Buy locations have started taking delivery of the retail units, so at least you’ll know they’ll be in stock on Friday — but for how long is another question altogether.

[Thanks to everyone who sent these in!]

Best Buy now offering Kin One free, Kin Two for $50 on contract

For all its faults, the prime reason we panned Microsoft’s Kin was price. Why buy a Kin when you could get a more capable iPhone, Palm Pre or Android device for the same price? This week, it seems someone at Best Buy HQ has seen the light. As of today, the brick-and-mortar electronics superstore has knocked $50 off the price of both handsets, making the Kin One free and the Kin Two cost only $50 on a two-year contract, with no mail-in rebates or other nonsense required. Now, if only Verizon would do something about that $30 monthly data plan, your teen might finally have a vaguely compelling reason to pick one up.

[Thanks, Sean T.]

PosiMotion Helix iPhone / iPod touch gaming grip now available at Best Buy

PosiMotion certainly announced this one well enough in advance (all the way back in December), but it looks like its Helix gaming grip for the iPhone and iPod touch is now finally available, and at Best Buy no less. In case your memory needs to be jogged a bit, this $20 contraption promises to be ideal for “virtually any game,” and let you use your iPhone or iPod touch in either portrait or landscape mode — it’ll also keep your headphones from getting tangled up for good measure. Still not convinced? Then perhaps the video after the break will change your mind — chains not included.

HTC EVO 4G will have a HDMI dock, sold through Best Buy

One of the things we bemoaned in our EVO 4G review was the lack of an included Micro HDMI cable in the box, mostly because they’re still somewhat hard to find, but that worry can now be allayed thanks to this newly uncovered HDMI dock from HTC. It will work with the Micro-USB port at the bottom of your EVO for data and power transfers, but the main attraction will obviously be its compatibility with the phone’s Type D connector and HDMI 1.4 connectivity. Before you rush to your nearest Best Buy to get one, though, there are a couple of caveats. PC Mag‘s testing of the HDMI output found some TVs only recognized a 480p signal when the EVO was sending out 1080p, and a number of apps, including Sprint TV, refused to send their goods out over the High-Definition Multimedia Interface at all. Might be worth trying before buying in this case, as in most others.

Best Buy to include TiVo’s software — but no DVR — in Insignia HDTVs

Looks like TiVo wasn’t kidding about expanding beyond DVRs, now that its Best Buy partnership will result in integrating non-DVR TiVo software in Insignia-branded HDTVs. That will bring online content (presumably Netflix, Amazon, Best Buy’s store and the others that currently find a home in the DVR menu) to televisions in the first -off set-top box appearance of a TiVo UI, but there’s no word in the press release about whether or not to expect any multi-room support with existing DVRs. The company looks to be turning its Premiere software into a platform ready to compete with the other connected HDTV solutions out there, but even after (or maybe because of) our hands-on experience with the latest TiVo DVRs our doubts are many — if someone says “IR blasters” we are out of here.
