Fossil’s Meta Watch passes the FCC, your magic wristwatch fantasies are about to come true

Fossil’s Meta Watch has been beset with delays and defective parts but finally there’s good news — the watches have passed the FCC. The two models (analog and digital) can sync with your Android smartphone or tablet via a Texas Instruments CC2560 Bluetooth controller and are being sold as a “development platform” until enough apps are built to take advantage of the technology. T.I.’s website lists the watches as being available since August 22nd, although we’re not entirely sure what to make of that — it still looks like a pre-order situation to us. In any case, the devices should hopefully start reaching app developers pretty soon. Hey, how about using the internal gyroscopes to bring some genuine wrist-flapping action to Angry Birds?

Update: TI’s website is now listing the watch with a September 29th availability date.

Fossil’s Meta Watch delayed once again, clearly has trouble keeping time

If you were planning on outfitting your arm with a new Meta Watch this month, you’re out of luck, because Fossil has just announced that the wristpieces won’t start shipping until September. The watches, which use Texas Instruments’ CC2560 Bluetooth controller to sync with smartphones, tablets or desktops, were originally scheduled for a July launch, but that timeline was eventually pushed back to August, due to part delays. Now, manufacturers have discovered a new batch of issues with the devices’ programming clips (used for micro USB connections) and the analog-digital version’s steel case, meaning that the pair won’t reach Hong Kong distributors until the beginning of next month, after which they may take another one to two weeks before shipping to consumers. The countdown clock continues to tick away, but you can still pre-order a Meta Watch for $200, at the links below.

Cedar Trail may be delayed, new Atoms gone ’til November

Intel AtomIf you’ve been waiting to catch a whiff of some Cedar Trail freshness, looks like you’re just gonna hold your breath a little bit longer. DigiTimes is reporting that the next-gen Atom chip has been pushed back from its anticipated September launch to November. Apparently Chipzilla is having issues with the graphics drivers and has been unable to pass Windows 7 certification. The new low-power CPUs should still be ready in time for the holiday season though, and will likely find their way into plenty of netbooks that almost nobody will buy.

AT&T postponing the LG Thrill 4G to September 4?

Are you excited that a 3D phone is coming to AT&T? If you answered yes, sit down and think happy thoughts, because we’re now hearing that the Thrill 4G — aka the LG Optimus 3D — may be delayed once more. According to a screenshot leaked from Radio Shack, the ill-fated device is getting pushed back to a tentative September 4th launch date for unknown reasons. As such, the reseller’s putting a halt on pre-orders of the phone until further notice. We’ve reached out to AT&T for official comment and will let you know if we hear anything back. Regardless, at the rate this phone is going, the Thrill is quickly devolving into a depression.

NVIDIA’s Kepler GPU still (kinda, sorta) on schedule for 2011 debut

Back in September of last year NVIDIA pledged that the successor to Fermi, Kepler, would arrive in 2011. Since then, things have been rather quiet on the next-gen GPU front. In fact, rumors have started to circulate that the 28nm-based chip would be pushed back to 2012. Turns out those rumblings aren’t entirely inaccurate. While the latest polygon pushing silicon will start being churned out before it’s time to buy a new calendar, final products won’t start shipping until next year, as a company rep told TechSpot. Kepler’s descendent, Maxwell, is still expected to land sometime in either 2013 or 2014, but there’s plenty of time for that timetable to slide back a bit too.

ASUS Eee Slider update: 32GB model in September, 3G edition in 2012

You know, it wouldn’t even bother us if it didn’t look so amazing. But alas, the Eee Slider from ASUS is easily one of the most anticipated Honeycomb tablets around, and our unending love for the since-departed HTC Advantage ensures that the flame for this guy will keep burning, too. Just a few weeks after hearing from ASUS’ UK branch that the Slider was being delayed until ‘autumn,’ in flies word from The Netherlands that we may be able to fix our gaze on September. Based on reports from Tablets Magazine, the 16GB model will be canned altogether in favor of a lone 32 gigger, which should sell for €499 across the pond. As for the 3G-enabled variant? We aren’t apt to see that surface until Q1 2012. It’s tough to pinpoint the reason for the holdup, but our guess is software — earlier in the week, a hands-on video emerged showcasing the Slider with Android 3.1, paying particular attention to the newfound USB accessory support. Have a gander at the video just past the break, and feel free to console one another in comments.

Update: Seems that ASUS’ Polish arm thinks that the 16GB model may ship in that corner of the world. Hmm… maybe these folks should start talking to one another.

Good old Radio Shack just can’t seem to keep its hands on internal memos. A little over a week ago, we were treated to a pair of leaked documents, slating an August 7th rollout for the LG Thrill 4G, and now another official looking missive has surfaced, pushing the release date back to August 21st. As per the document, customers will still be able to reserve their own 3D-enabled handset with the purchase of a $50 gift certificate before August 15th. Of course, we could still see this thrilling 4G phone pop up ahead of that date, perhaps from AT&T, but if you’ve already got a $50 gift certificate in hand, it looks like it’s time for another round of the waiting game.

Samsung Galaxy S II may be destined for Bell July 21st for $150

Time to break out the peanut butter and syrup, folks, because Bell is waffling. The Canadian mobile provider looked all set for a July 21st launch of the highly-coveted Samsung Galaxy S II, according to a listing on Best Buy Canada, but the page has unfortunately been pulled. When it was live, the galactic sequel was priced for $150 with three-year commitment, and if that were true it would make Bell the first North American carrier to offer the hot-selling Android device — though it certainly won’t be the last. Was the page taken down at Bell’s request to allow it the chance to formally announce the device? Has it been delayed? Or, was it just wrong? While we’re guessing it’s the first possibility — it is, certainly, a flagship phone that deserves some fanfare — we’ll toss a quarter in the wishing well in hopes that our dreams come true next Thursday.

Update: Best Buy Canada reinstated the page, but nudged the price up to $170. Thanks a lot.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro won’t ship until ‘late September’ in the UK

When the Xperia Pro first went up for pre-order back in June, we thought it would be available relatively soon. According to Sony Ericsson’s page, however, the handset won’t start shipping to UK customers until “late September.” A couple of friendly tipsters notified us about the change, though the SIM-free price, as you’ll notice, remains fixed at £349.99 (or about $558). We have yet to hear an explanation for the delay, but in the meantime, you can tide yourself over with our hands-on.

Well, that didn’t take long. The sun’s only set once since we reported Samsung’s solar NC215S netbook was up for pre-order and we’re already getting word that it’s been delayed. Despite earlier estimates of a July 3rd US shipping date, Liliputing is now saying that the solar-powered laptop won’t make it to consumers until sometime in mid to late August, due to hold ups involving the machine’s custom panels. Here’s hoping this doesn’t spoil anyone’s plans to journey out of the house this summer.
