Need A Laugh? PS3 & Wii Feature Comparison

This article was written on November 30, 2006 by CyberNet.

PS3 Wii

About a week ago Paul Thurrott put together a great feature comparison guide for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Wii. He highlights many of the features that tech enthusiasts love to know about, like the processors and included RAM.

The comparisons don’t always have to be serious though, do they? Nah, and the one that The Onion posted is sure to give you a laugh. Here is a listing of a few comparisons they make between the PS3 and the Wii:

  • Cost
    • PS3: F$#%ing ridiculous
    • Wii: Reasonably ridiculous
  • Ability to tear apart families
    • PS3: Second-to-none
    • Wii: Pretty strong, though mostly because everyone wishes it were a PlayStation instead
  • The way your peers will view you
    • PS3: “Dude! Can I come over and play that shit?”
    • Wii: “I’ll come over, but don’t tell anybody, okay?”
  • Love of owner
    • PS3: This much
    • Wii: Thiiis much

There are a few other comparisons that they make but I just couldn’t help but laugh when I was reading them. Hope you like it as much as I did. ;)

GAEMS Xbox 360 traveling case gets sleek redesign, still won’t help you spell correctly

The last rendition we saw of the GAEMS console-carrying case looked more like a giant lunch box than a solution to your portable gaming needs. If you’re still interested in bringing your Xbox 360 on the road, the company has redesigned the case and it now supports the fat and slim versions of the 360 and even the PS3-skinny. What’s new in this compact carrying case is the fact there’s actually room to store the console, controllers and power brick. It comes bundled with a remote, HDMI cable and power supply to power the speakers and LED screen. If you’re road trippin’ any time soon and want this beast, you can save yourself 20 bones by pre-ordering before April 20th and you’ll receive the $300 case come June.

Boo Hoo, No Guarantee for Wiis by the Holidays

This article was written on July 12, 2007 by CyberNet.

You’d think that Nintendo would have caught up to the Wii demand by the time the holiday season rolls around in December, but their senior vice president of marketing, George Harrison says that there’s no guarantee.  In fact, he says that the consoles will be scarce this holiday season. Scarce?! That’s what he said.

It’s hard for me to believe that one entire year after launch and the Wiis will still be a hard-to-find item. Harrison went on to say, “We’re trying to figure out what’s the reasonable monthly level, and as we’ve seen every time we ship product to the market, whether it’s in Japan or here in the U.S. or in Europe, it sells out in a matter of days.”I know some of you can vouch for this too.

Mariokart

For those of you who have managed to get your hands on a console, get ready for 100 new games by the end of the year! And of course along with those games will come more accessories. The one I’m most excited about (assuming I eventually get a Wii) is “The Wii Wheel” to go along with Mario Kart for Wii, of course! I’ve always been a Mario Kart fan, and the Wii Wheel would probably actually be pretty nifty. Two more accessories include  a “balance board” which will be used for fitness and exercise activities, and the “Wii Zapper” for shooting games.

While Microsoft is leading the pack with the amount of consoles sold-to-date (they had a head-start though), the Wii is catching up. Nintendo of America’s President even made the prediction at E3 (video-game convention currently going on) that the “Wii is poised to become number one worldwide in this generation very soon. Nintendo is not a fad.” With that, I guess it helps to explain why the Wii will still be a scarce commodity come December.

Developer gets Kinect working on Android, rains on Microsoft's WP7 parade

Windows Phone 7 is getting a lot of extensions this year and, while we wouldn’t say Kinect interoperability is anywhere near as important as third-party multitasking, it could be fun. Still, we haven’t seen proper Kinect interop, the sort that would see you controlling WP7 games with a Kinect — the sort that is apparently possible on Android. YouTuber HirotakaSter has managed to hook a Kinect up to Android hardware, what looks to be an Armadillo 500 FX development platform, and get everything to play nice. He’s using openFrameworks and, while at this point the software isn’t doing much other than showing a video stream from the camera, the possibilities from here are quite simply infinite.

[Thanks, Muhammad Ali]

LeapFrog’s LeapPad Explorer tablet looks a little more durable than your iPad

LeapFrog's LeapPad Explorer tablet looks a little more durable than your iPad

Kids of all ages love tablets, but not every tablet is suitable for fingers covered in peanut butter and jelly. We’re thinking the latest from LeapFrog would handle that situation without complaint and, with its chunky construction, should make it home undamaged after show and tell. It’s the LeapPad Explorer, shipping this summer, a 5-inch color tablet will let kids draw, play games, and of course learn all about reading, writing, and arithmetic. There’s also a built-in camera and, while we’re guessing FaceTime support isn’t likely to be coming in a future update, there is an animation studio app that will let kids have fun with whatever video they record. It’s all enough to make one very jealous of Junior, and an MSRP of $99.99 doesn’t even sound that bad.

Xperia Play Hands On: The PlayStation Phone Is a Button Masher’s Dream [Video]

From March, you’ll be able to pick up the latest PSP. Sorry, did I say PSP? I meant Xperia Play phone—but really, it’s hard to tell the difference. True, it’s running Android, but at the very core of the phone is a gaming titan begging you to play it. And play I did. More »

The Great Gatsby gets a beautiful, enthralling NES version, kills productivity of the literary gaming elite

Prepare yourself for the best, most enthralling gaming experience of your life. No, it’s not the newest-fangled of the fangles, it’s not the latest tech around. It’s just The Great Gatsby, lovingly squeezed into an NES game (well, it’s really a stylized Flash game, but you know what we mean). The game itself is sort of a cross between Castlevania and Super Mario Bros., and that’s just fine with us. In fact, it’s the greatest thing we’ve seen all week. Hit up the source link and get to wasting the rest of your day.

Xperia Play and Xperia Arc confirmed for Rogers in Canada (update)

In case you missed the announcement, a recent press release has confirmed what we already knew: Xperia Play is coming to Canada, exclusively to Rogers. Set to hit shelves sometime this spring in late March alongside the Xperia Arc, both of these bad boys will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with prices to be disclosed at launch. Remember when we used to call Xperia Play the “PlayStation Phone?” That was fun. PR after the break.

BlackBerry PlayBook to ship with full versions of Tetris and Need For Speed: Undercover (video)

EA Sports isn’t one to give things away, but that’s exactly what it’s doing on RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook. We still haven’t heard a concrete ship date for this thing, but EA swears up and down that these two titles will be finalized by the time it goes to market. Both Tetris and Need For Speed: Undercover will come pre-loaded on the device, with both being full, unabridged versions; in fact, NFS will feature a new mode specifically designed for getting into the game quickly on this very tablet. Smartly, there’s even a “slo mo” mode which slows everything down to enable accurate control even during hectic rides on the subway. We’ve lauded the PlayBook before, but we were duly impressed with just how well this thing handled multitasking. Even with NFS running in the background, we were able to play back a video in the foreground with nary a bit of lag during the transition. Tetris was predictably Tetris, and it only works when holding the slate vertically. We’ve got to confess that the inclusion of these two titles is quite the gesture, and considering the first four letters of this product’s name, we’d say it’s more than fitting. Hop on down to see a demonstration video of both, showcased here at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

iBuyPower’s Chimera XLC sports Core i7, 240mm liquid cooling system: FarmVille will never be the same

iBuyPower’s ironic Chimera line is back with the Chimera XLC. First seen at CES, this bad boy features an extreme! flame motif on the outside of the box — in addition to the 240mm liquid cooling system in the box. That’s right: 240mm radiator, a 200mm fan, and five (count ’em!) 120mm fans. This bad boy also packs an Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPU, and support for Level 3 Power Drive Overclocking service. Not bad for $1,599, eh? And it’s available now. PR after the break.
