It’s all going down tomorrow, and you can bet your bottom dollar (or last prepaid SIM, whichever you prefer) that we’ll be liveblogging it all on these pages right here. But prior to Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event, we’ll be set up outside of the company’s Cupertino headquarters in order to bring live pre-show analysis, including the very latest rumblings from the Apple mecca and any top-secret tips on ditching work in order to follow along. Just so we’re clear, Apple doesn’t allow live video streaming during the keynote, but our usual liveblog can be followed October 4th starting at 1:00PM ET (10:00am local time) right here. It might get a wee bit insane.

Apple pulled a fast one by leaving the iPhone 5 in its back pocket during WWDC, and little did we know that it’d be Tim Cook — not Steve Jobs — revealing the company’s next-gen handset. ‘Course, Tim already had a bit of experience by doing the honors alongside Lowell McAdam for the Verizon iPhone 4, but this is another beast entirely. Will the “Let’s Talk iPhone” keynote bring about a cheaper, perhaps prepaid iPhone 4s? Will Sprint finally get an iPhone to call its own? Will the iPhone 5 read our minds? Canon enables AirPrint on a trio of PIXMA wireless printers, plans to keep up the trend

Here’s the scenario: A., You’ve been getting your wireless print on with Canon’s PIXMA MG8220, MG6220 or MG5320 all-in-one inkjet printer, and B., you own an iDevice. Well, feel free to do a little dance (just not this one), because Canon’s added AirPrint support for the lucky three aforementioned. Simply (we hope) update your printer to the latest firmware, and boom, you’ll be printing over iOS 4.2 and beyond. Better yet, it’s also stated that the “majority” of forthcoming PIXMAs will follow in a similar AirPrint-enabled fashion. Need more info? Full PR is just past the break.

T-Mobile CMO: no iPhone 5 on our network this year

Hopes and dreams = shot. We’ve had a sneaky suspicion all along that T-Mobile would likely be the only major network not playing host to an iPhone 5 launch party this year, but we still kept our heads high because no official denial had been given from the company’s C-level. That’s now changed, since T-Mobile CMO Cole Brodman slammed us back into reality at a town hall meeting stating: “we are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year.” It’s a hard pill to swallow in such a short summation, but there might be a glimmer of hope — technically Brodman only referenced one specific name. Since there’s always a possibility that Apple will choose a different title for its fifth-gen device (or even add a lower-priced option), T-Mobile fans can still grasp onto one last Hail Mary of a chance; just don’t set yourself up for more disappointment, okay?

How Windows 8 and iOS 5 Stack Up: A Video Comparison

For those who weren’t able to attend Microsoft’s BUILD conference and check out a Windows 8 tablet firsthand, the fine points of its new OS may sound a bit vague.

The video below may give you a better idea of what you’re missing. Microsoft enthusiast site Winrumors compared the user experience of an iPad 2 running iOS 5 and the pre-release Windows 8 tablet. Running side by side, function by function, we’re really seeing how Windows has created a new way of interacting with a tablet.

We got a deeper look at Window’s new operating system earlier this week at Microsoft’s BUILD keynote. Windows 8 features a number of significant user interface changes, and is designed to run on both tablet PCs and desktop PCs, as well as ARM and x86 architecture. Those in attendance at the conference got a free Windows 8 tablet built by Samsung (which was rumored beforehand). The exact launch date for Windows 8 is yet to be announced.

The differences start right at the log-in screen. While iOS 5 offers a pin-based log-in, Windows 8’s default is a photo selected by the user, which they can tap or swipe on in a particular pattern (of their choice) to unlock the device.

In a refreshing change of pace from other mobile platform makers, the menu screen interface looks entirely different. In Windows 8, you’ve got a rectangular arrangement of smaller square-shaped “Live Tiles,” as well as larger rectangular ones. You can rearrange their order, put them on different pages, or even shrink larger tiles into smaller ones. It’s very customizable.

Windows 8 also includes subtle tweaks in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser. A swipe brings up the address bar, and shows you other tabs you have open with small screenshots across the top of the display. Windows 8 also supports pen input, so you can use a finger or a stylus to write in the name of a website, for example, rather than type it out.

Sure this isn’t the first one of these we’ve seen, but the full range of motion in the hinge makes this a nice accessory for your Apple slate. Redsn0w 0.9.8b7 gets tutorial for jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 6, iOS 4.3.5 and 4.2.10

Just like the Sn0wbreeze project, redsn0w recently added support for a tethered jailbreak of iOS 5 beta 6. While support for the iPad 2 still isn’t in the mix, the latest version — 0.9.8b7 — adds additional support for Apple’s latest beta on the original iPad, and the folks at Smash iPhone have provided a tutorial for those who move to the beat of a different drum. While redsn0w supports a tether-free solution for iOS 4.3.3, if you want to partake in Cupertino’s freshest fruits, you’ll be required to connect your phone or tablet to your computer whenever you power up the device. Also, while download links for iOS 4.3.5 and 4.2.10 are in the tutorial, if you’re not a developer, it’ll be on you to scrounge up the latest beta. Best of luck with the foray.

iOS 5 beta 7 goes live for developers

Well, you can’t say Cupertino isn’t being consistent. Just like last time, Apple’s gone and released a new beta of iOS 5, less than two weeks after the last one. Not much of interest pops out of build 9A5313E’s release notes, but we’d presume it squashes a fair share of bugs. Hit up settings to begin the roughly 70MB OTA update, or test those browser downloading skills at the dev portal linked below. And while you’re there, don’t forget to snag updated versions of Xcode, iTunes, and an updated firmware for the second-generation AppleTV.
