Hasta La Gadget!

Just a couple of weeks after removing several channels from its live TV streaming iPad app Time Warner Cable has added most of them back again. The notable exception here are networks owned by Viacom, which it took to court last week. So far, other than announcing Discovery and Fox channels are back on the TWCable TV iPad app, we weren’t able to get anything other than a no comment out of anyone at the companies involved. That means we don’t know if the channel providers have spontaneously come around to Time Warner’s way of thinking (this seems unlikely) or if it has simply decided to press the issue. We’ll see who is suing who next week, until then you can enjoy watching whatever happens to be on Fox News Channel, FX or National Geographic (if you actually do enjoy that, we don’t like to live by programmers broadcast schedules – DVR4LIFE) on your iPad as much as you like.

Since 2009, T3 Motion has been waving computer-created images of three-wheeled electric vehicles in our face and taunting us with the idea of a dashboard built around an iPad. Now, it seems the company is finally ready to deliver a real product, and you can pre-order yours now for a $500 deposit. Besides existing in the really real world, the big difference between the R3 and previous concepts is that the in-dash iPad has been replaced with a Galaxy Tab. When it finally hits the market, T3 Motion claims this three-wheeled EV will have a range of between 80 and 100 miles, a top speed of 70MPH, and that it will be classified as a motorcycle. Unfortunately, it will also have a rather hefty price tag of at least $25,000 — an awful lot to pay for the luxury of riding in the carpool lane, even if your ride looks like a cross between a Nissan GT-R, a Mini, and Batman’s tank-like Tumbler. Samson’s Meteor has a 1/8th inch socket and a one-inch diaphragm

The Samson Meteor mic, released today, offers lucky buyers fold-back legs and the largest diaphragm available. If this sounds to you like a great way for a frustrated musician to spend a weekend alone than you are dead right. And if you’re chuckling right now, you have a filthy mind.

If the gun from Portal had been made in the 1950s, it would look like the Meteor. It’s a chrome and mesh lozenge which stands stout on its stocky “fold-back” legs and stares at you with a single menacing blue eye. Inside the Dalek-like body is a cardioid-pattern mic which sends a 16-bit, 44.1/48kHz output to the USB port of your choice (it will work with the iPad via the camera connection kit).

If our lone musician starts to long for a little pillow-talk, he can flip the Meteor over and jack into the 1/8 inch hole at the back. This gives no-latency headphone monitoring, and the volume can be adjusted via a front-mounted knob.

There’s also a mic-mute switch (should the neighbors start to complain), a stand adapter for when you finally build up the confidence to go out in public and — finally — grippy rubber feet to stop the mic from sliding away from you.

The Samson Meteor is now available nationwide at Best Buy, for just $100, or cheaper than a date with a real girl.

The Ion iCade, our favorite April Fools’ joke turned actual product, has just passed through the FCC and moved one step closer to retail reality. The arcade cabinet for your iPad had all its Bluetoothy bits laid bare and even brought along its user manual, in case you’re the type who bothers to read those sordid things. There aren’t too many surprises here except, perhaps, the inclusion of an Ikea-esque hex key — some assembly required. With the green light from the feds, though, that means the iCade is right on schedule for its May 31st release. If you want to ensure you nab one of the first batch, you can pre-order it now for $99 from either GameStop or ThinkGeek. Given Apple’s track record of adopting newfangled technologies — you know, like SD slots — we’re going to go ahead and assume Steve Jobs & Co. aren’t planning on adding a 3D display to the iPad anytime soon. Now that you’ve swallowed that distasteful dose of reality, NewSight Japan is inviting you to mod it yourself in a way thankfully doesn’t involve performing open-heart surgery on your magical slate. The solution — whose name we can’t decipher on the company’s Japanese website — combines software with a film placed over the display (not to worry, this won’t impede mulltitouch gestures). Unfortunately, it doesn’t flip 2D images to 3D, so those operating sans a 3D-enabled camera or conversion software are apt to be sorely disappointed. That said, it’d fit right into a utopian universe where 3D movie downloads were the norm.
