HTC Holiday prototype shows up on Craigslist, gives us reason to celebrate (update: AT&T-bound)

This isn’t something you see up for sale on Craigslist every day, but what you see here may very well be a true-blue HTC Holiday. According to the XDA thread, the person responsible for the pictures noticed the device was being sold on the famous classified site, purchased it, and splattered the images online as evidence. Certainly, the resemblance to the render we saw in May is uncanny (minus the unfortunately cracked screen), and if the specs stay true to what was rumored at the time, we can expect to enjoy a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU with 1GB of RAM on a 4.5-inch qHD (960 x 540) display — all confirmed by the screenshots — as well as Android 2.3.4 and dual cameras consisting of an 8MP rear and 1.3MP front. The smartphone was rumored to be heading to AT&T’s lineup, though no branding could be found. Either way, this particular dream machine is destined to turn more than a few heads. Update: The “myATT” logo in the bottom right of the Holiday’s app menu is a pretty obvious indicator that it is, indeed, on its way to AT&T — so at least it’s going through the testing rounds right now, and we’ll see if it gets the final approval to get pushed to stores.

Windows Phone Mango RTM leaks into the wild, offers tropical sweets for the daring

For those who’ve longed for Twitter integration and multitasking capabilities on your Windows Phone, the folks at xda-developers have a weekend project you’re bound to flip over: the final version of Mango has leaked, and it’s available for download today. Internally, it’s known as build 7720, and it requires the post-NoDo update dubbed 7392. Alternately, users of Mango beta versions 7661 and 7712 may hop on board, too. If you’ve got a couple hours to spare, a full list of instructions — along with the operating system itself — is included in the source. So far, the software has been confirmed to work on the HD7, Mozart, Trophy, Focus, Arrive, Venue Pro and Optimus 7. As always, proceed at your own risk, and best wishes for your tropical getaway.

Sony announcing three NEX lenses on August 24th?

Last month we fell in love with a camera. Specifically, the Sony NEX-C3. We were so enamored with its lilliputian body and stunning image quality that we gave it a “9,” declared it nearly perfect and promptly began recommending it to everyone we know. But if there’s one thing we thought needed improvement, it was the selection of lenses. Well, it looks like we had nothing to fret about — a series of leaked shots suggest the outfit’s had at least three in the works all along. According to the shots, originally posted in DPReview, we’re looking at a 55-210mm / F4.5-6.3 zoom lens and fixed 50mm / F1.8 and 24mm / F1.8 numbers. Though the poster stopped short of revealing any pricing info, he seems confident Sony will announce them on August 24th. Now, while we typically take rumors with a grain of salt, it turns out that the tipster who posted these shots is none other than “Eddieaus,” the same guy who splattered forums with pictures of the VAIO Z next to its external Power Media Dock — the same press photos, in fact, that Sony unveiled days later. So we’re inclined to believe NEX loyalists are about to get a few new pieces of glass to play with. And if that rumored August 24th launch date is also on the money, you won’t have to wait too long to find out how many pretty pennies they’ll cost.

Droid Bionic spotted in the wild, again, blurrycam still in full effect

We’re getting tired of all this teasing without any payoff, but when it comes Motorola’s forthcoming dual-core Droid, we can’t help ourselves. Just days ago we saw the Bionic’s guts when it passed through the FCC, and now we’ve got fresh pics of the phone in the wild. This most recent sneak peek comes courtesy of Howard Forums user ceb unit, who posted a couple photos of the device after a Moto rep let a friend get handsy with the newest Droid. It’s good to see civilians get their paws on one, but enough already, we want shots of this thing in the hands of some happy customers!

Pics of New Android Operating System Leak into the Wild

Images surfaced late Thursday afternoon that purport to show an unreleased new version of the Android operating system, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich. The leaks first surfaced on Android enthusiast sites Android Police and RootzWiki.

From what we’re seeing, the images aren’t a radical departure from the most current release of Android for phones, version 2.3.4, code-named Gingerbread. What we’re seeing are minor tweaks — blue accents in the user interface, a redesigned version of the notification bar and Google’s “Shopper” app — but nothing that suggests a major overhaul.

Sources for AndroidPolice and RootzWiki, however, suggest there’s more to come that the pictures don’t show. According to sources for both sites, the newest version of Android will include a “panorama mode” for the phone’s camera, a new app launcher and application drawer and additions to Google’s “Shopper” app that allow NFC-enabled devices to use touch-enabled features.

Since Android was first released in 2008, Google’s mobile development team has ramped up the software release cycle. Currently, Google releases a new version of Android approximately every six months. It makes sense, then, for recent builds of Ice Cream Sandwich to surface in August, considering Android version 3.0 (Honeycomb) first debuted in February.

Google first teased the new version of Android at its developer conference — Google I/O — in May.

With every new Android version release, Google typically pairs up with a specific hardware manufacturer, strapping the new software to a brand new product. Google launched Gingerbread on Samsung’s Nexus S in December, while teaming with Motorola to launch Honeycomb on the Xoom tablet in February.

Though the leaked pictures show a Nexus S running the purported new version of Ice Cream Sandwich, a source tells both Android Police and RootzWiki that the first device to receive the new build will be the Nexus Prime, a rumored smartphone yet to be acknowledged by Google.

Hot, Hot iPhone 5 Mockups Based on Leaked Case Designs

Leaked case designs have been a surprisingly good barometer for predicting the shapes of previous iPhones and iPods, and even the iPad 2. The thinking goes that iPhone cases are big business, and case-makers are willing to pay big bucks to get their hands on the details so they can have cases in stores on launch day.

Couple this with the fact that Apple is surely already building zillions of iPhone 5s to avoid any shortages at the expected September launch, and there must be some underpaid worker, somewhere, willing to sell the secrets.

So it is that MacRumors commissioned Italian designers Ciccarese to make a CG mock-up of the iPhone 5 based on already leaked case designs. Could this be the shape of the iPhone 5?

Ciccarese’s design looks like a cross between an iPod Touch and an iPad. It is incredibly thin, has a huge screen that stretches almost to the edges of the body, and adds a weird, lozenge-shaped home button. It is also gorgeous. I’m planning on buying my first-ever iPhone this year, and I would certainly be happy with this one.

Some features make sense here. The iPhone’s screen is looking small by today’s standards, and Apple could easily let the resolution drop slightly in exchange for an extra half-inch of space. Thinner is almost always guaranteed with Apple, and the slightly tapered wedge shape would provide space for cameras up top while slimming things down everywhere else.

The only thing that seems really off is that wide home button. But then, what do I know? I was sure the leaked iPad designs were fake because of the ugly great speaker grille on the back. Then again, I still can’t quite believe it’s real.

We love starting the week with a good leak, and thanks to an anonymous tipster, we’re swimming in a flood of juicy names. First, it appears the Samsung Within is getting a new alias, and without delaying your anticipation, let us re-introduce you to Sprint’s upcoming Galaxy S II handset: the Epic 4G Touch. As the moniker suggests, the QWERTY keyboard is likely sliding away, though lovers of physical buttons might find solace with the mysterious Epic 2. If your ideal smartphone combines qHD resolution with HTC Sense — and eschews the 3D display and dual-core CPU — the Kingdom is one step closer to reality, and it’ll be known as the EVO Design 4G. Finally, a new Motorola will arrive at the Now Network, and it’s been christened the Admiral. Unlike its peers, it’s lacking the “4G” nomenclature, meaning it’s avoiding the upper echelons of Sprint’s stable… and hopefully sporting longer battery life, too.

HTC Ruby shows its T-Mobile skin, Android aspirations

Well folks, now we know. It looks like the HTC Ruby that was leaked via a series of hyper-sensitive office photos is headed to T-Mobile. You know the one — a couple weeks back, when someone underestimated the glare of the HTC Flyer and dropped their seemingly harmless photos on Flickr? Yeah, that’s the handset in question. Not much dirt on the specs, besides the familiar key layout cluing us into Google’s obvious underpinnings.. and just maybe, we’ll get some fresh baked Gingerbread goodness. Either way, more info should be on the way soon, but until then, careful to check your reflections, friends.

HTC Puccini screens leak, AT&T bloatware and number pad make an appearance

HTC’s 10-inch Puccini tab’s been poking its head out from the speculative shadows and now we have a few leaked screens to further whet your LTE appetite. The bevy of shots over on Pocketnow show the AT&T-branded Honeycomb slate packing a serious amount of carrier-installed bloat, with AT&T’s Code, Family, MyText and Navigation apps joining the likes of Amazon’s Kindle app, Cordy, Let’s Golf 2 and NFS Shift. The OEM also appears to have tacked on a number pad to its virtual keyboard solution — a feature Sony’s rumored to include in its own tablets — taking full advantage of the purported 1280 x 800 display. And, lest we forget that last pic of stylus pairing, the slab’s menu dock sports a “pen icon in the tray,” confirming those notions of Scribe-functionality. Be sure to check the source for an extra peek at the orange-colored network’s future must-have device.

Samsung Hercules snapped in the wild, powering its way to Telus soon?

Would demigods feel honored that smartphones are getting named after them? The Samsung Hercules, from what we can tell, seems to fit its given title appropriately; he was, after all, famous for his behemoth strength. Sadly, we’ve known more about him than his technological counterpart, though that may be soon changing. MobileSyrup found someone clutching onto the still-unannounced device at a VIP event and snapped a quick pic for the world to see. While they didn’t get any hands-on time, they indicated that it was running on Telus, it appeared to have a 4.5-inch display (as rumored), and is a design mashup of the Galaxy S II, Nexus S, and the Infuse 4G. This still leaves us with nothing but spec rumors — which include a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, Super AMOLED Plus display, 16GB of flash storage, 42Mbps HSPA+, and an eight megapixel camera — but it’s nice to have a face to go with the famous name. For somebody who likes to go the distance, its superphone namesake sure seems awfully close.
