ASRock Vision 3D HTPC sports Intel Core processor and USB 3, but you’ll have to buy your own glasses (video)

It’s been a while since an ASRock piqued our interest (though we do love that name). That said, we are getting close to Computex, so we’ve been expecting to hear from a few old friends over the next week or so. For instance, TweakTown has just got a peek at ASRock’s new Vision 3D HTPC and we must admit it’s a pretty solid looking piece of kit. Inside its glossy aluminum housing one rests an Intel Core mobile processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GPU for 3D Vision graphics support, and a quick trip around the case finds four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, dual-link DVI, 7.1 audio, and a Blu-ray drive. If you’re a 3D TV nut, however, you’ll have to shell out extra for NVIDIA’s 3D Vision kit (with glasses an appropriate software). No price yet, but they’re aiming for a July street date. Video after the break.

Harmonix teases keyboards for Rock Band 3

Harmonix hasn’t been dishing out a ton of Rock Band 3 details lately apart from confirming that it’ll be out this holiday season, but it just revealed a big one in the demo for Green Day: Rock Band. If that not so subtle teaser above is any indication, it looks like Rock Band 3 will be adding keyboards to the equation. Nothing more to go on than that at the moment, but we can only assume this also means that Activision will soon be hard at work on Keytar Hero, and that “Axel F” will be stuck in your head starting right…. now.

Rumor: American Beauty Director to Shoot 4G iPhone Ads

Apple has hired American Beauty director Sam Mendes to shoot TV ads for the next-generation iPhone, according to a rumor posted by tech blog Engadget.

At least one spot will show a mother and daughter using the iPhone’s front-facing camera for a video-conferencing call, a tipster told Engadget. (Jetsons, anyone?) Most of us already expected this was a feature, because we saw the new camera on the prototype iPhone leaked by Gizmodo (right). Gizmodo’s publication of the device led to a police seizure, and two weeks ago the unsealed affidavit revealed that Apple legal confirmed the device was a prototype of the fourth-generation iPhone.

Corroborating its rumor, Engadget found statements on Twitter from actors claiming they were auditioning for an Apple ad, though that’s not substantial evidence to “confirm” that Mendes is shooting fourth-gen iPhone ads, as the blog suggests.

Nonetheless, many expect Apple to introduce its next-generation iPhone soon at the Worldwide Developers Conference kicking off June 7. At the same venue, Apple debuted the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS in years past.

The mouse ain’t dead…yet: five of the best mice reviewed

For over thirty years the computer mouse ruled over the kingdom of computer navigation. Despite losing its rubber ball and cord over the years, the peripheral lived a long, full life of being pushed across desks and tables getting the cursor where it needed to go. It died today from neglect as it was abandoned en masse for touchpads and touch-based computers.

Many tech pundits have already started drafting an obituary of the computer mouse like the one above, but let’s be clear: we think the death of the mouse is greatly exaggerated. In fact, we’re so convinced the mouse isn’t dead that we’ve been testing some of the best on the market for the last couple of months. Click on below to find out why we think the lowly mouse has more than a few good years left, and which ones out there deserve your attention.

Shadow is the Likely Successor to Motorola Droid

Motorola’s Droid phone has been a big hit for the company — and if you are wondering what’s next, say hello to Shadow, the codename for the successor to the Droid.

The Shadow phone may be another device exclusive to Verizon and will be packed with features that could put it among the best in the market.

The phone will have a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It will sport a 8-megapixel camera that can shoot 720p video, have a 4.3-inch display, an HDMI port and 16 GB of internal storage, says Gizmodo. That sounds a lot like the HTC EVO 4G phone on Sprint, minus the blazing-fast 4G data connection.

Shadow is also likely to run Android FroYo or Android 2.2, the latest version of the operating system that allows tethering and the ability to turn the phone into a wireless hotspot. There’s no word though on whether Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 will run on the Shadow.

And in keeping the precedent set by Apple of losing prototype phones, the latest Shadow prototype was reportedly found left behind in a corporate Verizon gym. The phone was remotely locked, says the guy who found it. But at least this time around, it looks like no one paid money to get a peek at the device.

Best Buy to include TiVo’s software — but no DVR — in Insignia HDTVs

Looks like TiVo wasn’t kidding about expanding beyond DVRs, now that its Best Buy partnership will result in integrating non-DVR TiVo software in Insignia-branded HDTVs. That will bring online content (presumably Netflix, Amazon, Best Buy’s store and the others that currently find a home in the DVR menu) to televisions in the first -off set-top box appearance of a TiVo UI, but there’s no word in the press release about whether or not to expect any multi-room support with existing DVRs. The company looks to be turning its Premiere software into a platform ready to compete with the other connected HDTV solutions out there, but even after (or maybe because of) our hands-on experience with the latest TiVo DVRs our doubts are many — if someone says “IR blasters” we are out of here.
