They prompted some public outcry from competitors and a preliminary antitrust investigation from the US government, but it looks like Apple isn’t even enforcing those new rules on outside ad networks — at least not yet. That’s according to none other than AdMob CEO Omar Hamoui himself, who said at the MobileBeat conference this week that “they haven’t been enforcing” the new regulations yet, and that he’s “very appreciative of that.” If enforced, those regulations would prevent companies like AdMob from collecting some analytic data on ads placed in iOS applications — data that Apple itself could collect with its iAd platform. Of course, it’s not clear when or if Apple will start enforcing the rules, but Hamoui seems to be content with the current situation, and even went out of his way to praise Apple’s own advertising efforts, saying that “anybody getting advertisers interested in mobile is a good thing. It’s not at all a zero-sum game.”

We’ll get right to the point: the Facebook app for your iPhone / iPod touch is now drinking the iOS 4 Kool-Aid. Fast app switching, high resolution icons (better than the one seen above, since that’s pre-update), Korean / Russian localizations, and… that’s about it for now. Maybe background image / video uploading is on the list of to-do’s, but at least it won’t look quite as pixel-deficient on the home screen next to Twitter.

Not feeling hot about the trouble–prone iPhone 4, but still tempted by its optional iMovie app? Now you have a choice! Turns out to run said app on other devices (including iPod touch, supposedly) running iOS 3.0 and above, all you need are a jailbroken iOS device, iMovie for iPhone from the App Store, and two quick edits in the app’s info.plist file — change minimum system version to “3.0.0” and front-facing-camera to “false.” Sounds easy enough, although we’ve yet to see the hacked app actually running on devices other than the 3GS demoed in the video after the break. And sorry, Redmond Pie’s already confirmed that this sucker doesn’t work on the iPad… yet.

We’ve been seeing hints here and there that the iPad versions of Apple’s iWork apps will eventually trickle down to the iPhone and iPod touch, and now it looks like we’ve got some definitive proof: 9to5 Mac has published a thorough screenshot walkthrough of Pages. As you’d expect, it looks a lot like a smaller version of Pages for the iPad, but there are some interesting tidbits here and there: all documents sync over the air with all your iOS devices, there’s integration with the oft-forgotten iWork.com, and you can export in .doc and PDF in addition to Pages format. Interesting stuff, to say the least — hit the read link for the complete set of shots.

Japan tends to be on the weird side of any coin, and The Fingerist does nothing to undermine that reputation. This accessory for the iPhone and iPod touch was conceived at a “mutton BBQ restaurant” when one dude said to another that he needed an amp for his guitar app. Lo and behold, after an apparently successful CES appearance, the axe-imitating speaker thingie — replete with a guitar strap and line-out to jack into real amplifiers — is now on sale for ¥14,800 (or $150 for the rest of us). We can’t wrap our minds around such an expense just for the privilege of fingering our touchscreens, but then you can make some pretty sweet music using these things (video evidence after the break).
