Infinity Ward lending a hand on Modern Warfare 2 controller?

Time Crisis fans fully understand the awesomeness of a good gun when playing a gun-based title, so those very gamers will likely grasp the significance of Robert Bowling’s Modern Warfare 2-related tweet. Just yesterday, the Infinity Ward employee made clear that he was “in a design meeting for a Modern Warfare 2 controller,” and he sought the input of the Twitterverse regarding “concave or convex grips for the analog sticks.” If you’ll recall, this title can already be secured with an actual pair of night vision goggles, so tossing in some sort of rifle or semiautomatic weapon would just sweeten the pot even further — chances are, though, this is just gonna be modeled after the plain jane Xbox 360 pad. When contacted by our pals over at Joystiq, Bowling wouldn’t elaborate much, only noting that the controller “isn’t being manufactured by [Infinity Ward] or [Activision].” So, that means it is being manufactured though, right?

Apple’s iPhone 3GS gets two more handheld video mounts

Look, it’s not like Apple’s iPhone 3GS is really equipped with the necessary hardware to shoot your next feature film, but given the high-profile nature of the device, it’s no surprise to see a veritable cornucopia of video mounts making their way onto the scene. Just weeks after a completely over-the-top shoulder mount emerged, we’ve now got a pair of handheld grips ready for the amateur crowd. Both Zacuto’s ZGrip iPhone Pro and OWLE’s BUBO are designed to steady one’s shot when capturing clips with Apple’s freshest handset, though we tend to prefer the dual grip design of the latter. Hit the read links below for more information on each, and jump past the break if you’re looking for samples to absorb before you buy. Oh, and yes — both are guaranteed to draw unwanted stares and cause intense embarrassment when used.

Official Star Wars lightsaber and blaster accessories for licensed Wii Jedis

Hey, who doesn’t have a desire to get down and nerdy with their Wii on occasion — we respect that. But if you’re going to pretend to hold the Wiimote like a lightsaber, you might as well go for the full-on, officially-licensed accessory. Oh, there are plenty of pretenders but nothing can feed your delusions of grandeur better than George Lucas’ blessing. Yes, the lightsaber glows, and the cats at Bensussen Deutsch & Associates have plans for a matching blaster too. Unfortunately, the accessories don’t make room for MotionPlus which is fine, we guess, since they’ll be shipping with Star Wars – The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes — a game that doesn’t support MotionPlus anyway. How wude.

New Wii Accessory Measures Your Heart Rate

rvl_wvs_c1_e3

Nintendo on Tuesday gave a sneak peek of the Wii Vitality Sensor, a Wiimote accessory that fits on your finger and takes your pulse.

Previewed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, the Wii Vitality Sensor will serve as much more than a heartbeat gauge, said Satoru Iwata, president and CEO of Nintendo.

“It intends to have you see the information relating to the inner world of your body, achieve greater relaxation,” Iwata said. “Everyone under pressure in our stressful society could use this as a way to relax … [and it] could even make it easier to fall asleep.”

Nintendo did not announce games it had in mind for the Vitality Sensor. We’re guessing it will have something to do with the Wii Fit exercise game at some point.

No word yet on price or a release date. See another image of the Vitality Sensor below the jump. Also, visit Wired.com’s Game Life blog for more coverage of E3 2009.

Nyko launches Type Pad Pro for Wii, gonzo Zoom Case for DSi

Oh, Nyko — always keeping us on our toes. After showcasing the Wii Pistol Grip at CeBIT, the company is swinging big at E3 with a few new accessories. Starting things off is the abomination you see above, which sure looks an awful lot like some janky knockoff cellphone we peeked back in August. Officially, the Zoom Case for DSi protects your handheld and provides an 8x zoom for magnifying the external camera; never mind the fact that it makes your DSi infinitely less portable. Moving on, there’s the Charge Grip Flex, a accessory for the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 that sports a built-in rechargeable battery and a bonus gripping surface. For the Xbox 360, there’s the SpeakerCom 360, which enables your parents to hear all those whining tweens brag in fantastically high tones about how they just “pwned you.” Lastly, there’s the Type Pad Pro for Wii, a wireless keypad (via USB) that makes typing in Opera or messaging your pals a heck of a lot simpler. Mum’s the word on pricing and availability right now, but all that should change soon enough.

Santok’s USB-infused in-car charger is just what the doctor ordered

You know the dilemma all too well — you need a cigarette outlet to charge up your PND, yet a spare USB socket would totally come in handy for juicing up that DAP whilst crossing the country in a ’74 Chevelle. Enter Santok, which has just introduced what could possibly be the mother of all in-car chargers. Aside from turning a single cigarette socket into two, it also adds a pair of powered USB ports, leaving us only yearning for a couple of AC sockets to really cap things off. ‘Course, we aren’t so much for melted center consoles, so maybe we’ll just color ourselves satisfied. Now, if only we could spot a price…

Waterproof 5D Mark II housing allows for 1080p under the sea

People are already using Canon’s groundbreaking 5D Mark II to shoot feature films, but we never thought we’d see the next Jaws captured with a DSLR. ‘Course, whether or not Mr. Spielberg will actually choose to use one remains to be seen, but at least the option’s there now. Famed underwater imaging company Sea&Sea has just outed its newest waterproof casing, promising to keep the 1080p-capable DSLR safe for up to 60 meters under the surface. The only issue? It’ll set you back almost as much as the camera body, or ¥283,500 ($2,998). Good thing you’ve got a Hollywood-sized budget, yeah?

Belkin justifies $30 for a pillow, calls it CushDesk

If you’re still up for spending unnecessarily these days, Belkin has the perfect excuse to blow 30 bones on a couch pillow replacement. The oddly, almost comically named CushDesk, is nothing more than a sophisticated lap cushion with a somewhat sturdy top that acts as a portable tabletop for your molten-hot laptop. It’s available in a number of soothing hues, and while it’s fully compatible with mobile PCs and Macs up to 17-inches in size, we’re still waiting to hear back about compatibility with UMPCs, MIDs and Linux-based netbooks.
