It ain’t the first Eee PC we’ve seen with a carbon fiber finish, and if the second one in as many months is any indication, we get the feeling we could see quite a few more of these surface at Computex in just a few weeks. The latest netbook from ASUS has found itself plastered on a German e-tailer’s website, with the R101 proudly boasting a 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor, 250GB hard drive, a 10.1-inch LCD, native 1,024 x 600 resolution, Intel’s GMA 3150 graphics and a battery that’s good for 9.5 hours (if you use it sparingly, we’re sure). The only other nugget we’re made aware of is the €299 ($379) price tag, but it’s pretty obvious we won’t be treated to a chiclet keyboard and a trackpad bar with a split in the middle. Fiddlesticks.

Twitter Acquires Tweetie
Twitter took a bold step last week, and instead of developing/marketing their own homegrown iPhone application they have bought one of the most popular apps: Tweetie. This may or may not be good news for consumers. The good part is that they will be slashing the price from $3 down to free, and the developer of the app is joining Twitter’s mobile team. My only worry now is whether we’ll continue to see the same quality updates that we have been seeing.

iPhone OS 4 Hands-On Video
Gizmodo has posted two great videos that show off the new upcoming features in the iPhone OS 4 release. This includes the multitasking and folders which were a highlight of the keynote, but they also go more in depth and look at things like the new mail app and playlist enhancements.

Firefox 3.7 Nightly Lets You Put Tabs on Top
For a little while we saw Aero glass support in the Firefox nightly builds, but while we wait for its return there is something else you can play with now. When right-clicking on a toolbar one of the new options is to place the tabs on the top of the screen. Many themes are already capable of doing stuff like this, but it’s nice to see it natively supported.

Convert PDF Files to ePub
The iPad supports any ePub files you may have lying around, and with a little work you can also get your PDFs into the iBook app by converting them to that format. The process takes a little work, but it gets a little faster once you’ve done it a few times and get the hang of it.

Sync Open Tabs with Xmarks
Xmarks added a feature to their Firefox add-on that lets users sync their open browser tabs across all their computers, and says the feature will also be coming to their Chrome counterpart.

Snap Links Lite for Chrome
The Firefox extension called Snap Links as been ported to a Chrome extension, but with a little less functionality. You can now bulk open links by simply drawing a box around them, but it doesn’t have all the customizability that the Firefox extension offers.

Two in one week — Two leaked Chinese Motorola phones with Android and transparent MOTOMING-like flip covers, that is. However, this one’s a little more exciting. Dubbed the Moto MT820, this sleek handset’s got a full leaked gallery of nice, clear images courtesy Chinese forum HiAPK, and word has it this might be the first device to make use of the dual-screen 3D patent Motorola applied for early this month. Actual facts are a little more scarce, though spy shots show a front-facing camera, physical home, power, volume and camera buttons, and a microSD slot hidden inside the back cover. We’d heard through the grapevine that the engineers at Round Rock were working on a number of slates to fill the Streak lineup, but man, we didn’t see this coming… at least not yet. A couple of images along with an internal Dell announcement landed on our virtual doorstep this fine morning, and lo and behold, it looks as if a 7-inch and 10-inch Streak tablet is on the horizon. But that’s not all — we learned that the “coming soon” we heard earlier regarding the Aero‘s release date on AT&T really means “June.” Later this “summer,” said phone will be joined by the Streak 5 (yeah, that’s the Mini 5 we’ve had for months now) for those who prefer a more capable mobile. As for the 7-inch Streak? Look for it to launch (presumably with or without AT&T support) late in 2010, while a 10-inch flavor follows in “early 2011.” Is Sidetalkin’ really about to return? We’re ready — so ready.

Update: Dell hit us up with a totally corporate line when we dug deeper for details:

“Dell continually develops and tests new products that extend the mobile experience. We have not made any product announcements and do not comment on speculation, rumor or unannounced products.”

MediaDefender is a popular company who’s goal is to thwart illegal file, music, and movie sharing. Their 60 employees and 2,000 servers are used to post fake files (that appear to be real) on the file sharing networks, and they can load corrupt data into the files being downloaded on the Kazaa network. They are essentially doing whatever they can to discourage and prevent the downloads of P2P digital media.

Some of MediaDefender’s clients include Universal Pictures, HBO, Paramount Pictures, and BMG. So as you can imagine this group is going to be a prime target for piracy advocates. One group in particular, who goes by the name MediaDefender-Defenders, has been scraping the company clean over the last week. Here’s a list of the events that have occurred:

1. September 14, 2007 – MediaDefender has over 6,000 internal emails leaked totaling more than 700MB. The emails contained information regarding their tactics used for tracking P2P users, as well as their techniques for disrupting the various services.
2. September 16, 2007 – MediaDefender has a recorded phone call leaked regarding their network protection. There was also a huge portion of their MySQL database leaked which gave away information regarding the fake files they had been posting on the Gnutella P2P network.
3. September 20, 2007 – And now for the doozy. Just today MediaDefender had their source code for the anti-piracy tools leaked to the Internet. These are claimed to be received straight from a MediaDefender employee, and having information like this could make it easy for applications to scan for the fake files. A list of names for all of the apps included in the download is available below.

If you’re looking for any of the above leaks they can simply be found by performing a "MediaDefender" search on a BitTorrent site. Of course, having the information yourself probably won’t do much good…the real gem will come when programmers begin to release countermeasures for the different applications!
